TOP SHED

Malcolm Pugh's 3rd update ..... July 2008

The original design for Top Shed included a turntable, which was already to hand. This was fitted, but didn't work as reliably as hoped, nor did a replacement. So the only option was to buy an expensive turntable, which Andy and Elaine did on their visit to an model railway auction in Munich in late 2007.  A Fleischmann H0 gauge electric turntable (6652) in excellent condition was found, and then stored as a surprise for Top Shed's owner.

Such is the pace of modern life, it didn't get fitted until July 2008. This turntable has remote control, the controller is now fitted into Ellis making a very neat job.

There are 48 potential outlets, of which 9 are fitted. Only trouble is that Top Shed's owner now wants a roundhouse!  The turntable itself runs smoothly, and reasonably quietly, and aligns perfectly. Control is very easy: hold the lever to the left to go clock-wise, to the right to go anti-clockwise, if held it runs straight past the exit track, if released it stops at the next exit track. A hole was cut into the board to accommodate the sunken well. It connects to Ellis with just three wires, plus two wires to connect the bridge to the power supply.

NEWSFLASH...top shed's owner has just taken delivery of a DCC controller and a sound equipped loco. What impact will that have on the layout?
